Our Business

Creating a New Kind of Food Company

In April 2017, Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods and united two companies in North America with a shared commitment to purpose, growth, and good food.

Today, Danone Canada is positioned to make a difference in the world. We make food that delights during any moment of the day, with a combined portfolio of beloved, trusted and pioneering brands in dairy; organic dairy; plant-based; and coffee creamers and beverages, there is a Danone product for every Canadian.

Because preparing for tomorrow is the business of today, we made a bold commitment to our larger, shared purpose to change the way the world eats to benefit the health of people and the planet, and we are achieving B CorpTM certification by 2020. In April 2018, we achieved our goal two years ahead of schedule and have been recertified in April 2021. Our spirit is ignited as Canada’s largest consumer-facing B CorpTM as we strive towards an even more sustainable future.

Our past foretells a compelling future

Danone Canada is part of the legacy of Isaac Carasso, the founder of Danone, who was an early pioneer in bringing health through food after he established a small yogurt factory in Barcelona, Spain in 1919.

  • Our Canadian roots trace back to Jude Delisle, who set up a namesake yogurt business in Montreal, Quebec shortly after the turn of the 20th century. Among his first customers were doctors who prescribed yogurt as a treatment to patients. By 1967, Delisle had become the leading yogurt producer in Canada. In 1968, the company modernized its production with a new facility in Boucherville, a suburb of Montreal. Thanks to a steady stream of innovation, including new products and expansion into new markets, the company enjoyed substantial growth.

In 1993, Delisle joined the Danone Group, and the company officially became Danone Canada in 1997. In April 2017, Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods and united two companies in North America with a shared commitment to purpose, growth, and good food.
