Danone Canada Wins Sustainable Development and Circular Economy Strategy of the Year at the 2026 Mercuriades
BOUCHERVILLE, QC, May 12, 2026 – As part of the 46th edition of the Les Mercuriades competition, the prestigious business contest organized by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ), Danone Canada proudly received a Mercure in the Sustainable Development and Circular Economy Strategy category.
This award recognizes Danone Canada’s leadership in sustainable development and its commitment to transforming its operations and contributing to the acceleration of the transition to a circular economy in Quebec.
The award-winning initiative, led at its Boucherville plant, is the investment of more than $9 million announced jointly with its partners and collaborators from the public and parapublic sector, to modernize its facilities and launch the production of individual Oikos yogurt containers in PET, containing up to 30% recycled content. This shift marks a major step forward for Quebec’s agri-food industry, adopting solutions better suited to existing recycling streams.
Beyond the change of material, the approach aims to improve the environmental performance of packaging throughout its entire lifecycle. It is based in particular on optimizing their design to enhance recyclability, the progressive integration of recycled materials, as well as close collaboration with collection and recycling stakeholders to ensure that these packages are properly recovered, sorted, and returned to the value chain. This approach reflects Danone Canada’s belief that a successful transition to circular packaging systems relies on the collective mobilization of the industry.
“This Mercure recognizes the exceptional work of our teams and partners, who have been able to turn a circular economy ambition into a concrete achievement. It proves that it is possible to combine innovation, industrial performance, and positive impact for the planet.”
— Isabelle Rayle Doiron, Senior Vice President, General Secretary, Chief Legal Officer
Rolled out company-wide, the project is part of the Danone Impact Journey, Danone’s global roadmap to maximize its positive impact on health, the planet, and communities. As the largest consumer-focused certified B Corp in the country, Danone Canada is taking concrete action to advance its mission—bringing health through food to as many people as possible—while actively contributing to the transition towards more sustainable food systems and business models.
